How Much Does a Cake Cost? UK Bakery Prices in 2026

We checked the published price lists of the bakeries in our directory in October 2026. For a made-to-order celebration cake the middle of the market runs from about £35 to £75, with London bakeries and heavily decorated designs going well past £100. Here is what real bakeries charge, with every figure linked to its source.

Cake prices by size

Size Serves Price Bakery
6″ 8–10 slices £60 Luminary Bakery, London
6″ shallow 8–12 from £75 Pure Patisserie, Buckingham
6″ standard 12–16 from £105 Pure Patisserie, Buckingham
8″ 16–18 slices £75 Luminary Bakery, London
8″ about 25 from £145 Pure Patisserie, Buckingham
10″ 24–26 slices £95 Luminary Bakery, London
10″   from £185 Pure Patisserie, Buckingham

The two ladders disagree, and both are right. An 8-inch price means little on its own: depth, filling and finish move it between £75 and £145 in these two lists alone. When you compare quotes, compare servings, not tin size.

Birthday cakes

In Cardiff, Let Them See Cake sells a lemon sugar cake at £35 and a customised classic at £40, which is about where the mainstream starts. In London, Primrose Bakery lists its Birthday Babe cake at £48.95 and Hummingbird Bakery charges £55 for a Pastel Rainbow, £56 for a 6-inch Peppa Pig, and £65 to £90 for its vintage 10-inch designs.

Dietary cakes carry a premium, although a modest one. Vida Bakery, fully vegan and gluten-free, prices its 6-inch cakes at £60 to £69, about what a standard 6-inch costs elsewhere in London. Prestige Patisserie starts celebration cakes at £75, charges £90 for the vegan version, and sells a giant macaron birthday cake for £85.

Bento cakes

The lunchbox-sized bento cake is the cheapest way into a custom design. The Cakery in Leamington Spa sells a bento box of cake from £34, personalised message included. It is a small single cake, not a party cake, and that is the point.

Fresh cream and patisserie

Belgique in Epping prices its round fresh cream celebration cakes from £42.45 up to £267.50 for the largest. Paul sells a Basque cheesecake serving 6 to 8 for £25 and a 7-inch macaron fraisier for £56. Cutter & Squidge lists its tiramisu celebration cake from £49.99, and Comptoir Bakery puts its celebration cakes at £150. Fresh cream work is usually ordered days ahead, not weeks, which also makes it the realistic option when the birthday is on Saturday.

And at the counter

Made-to-order is not the whole market. Cissy Greens Bakery in Haslingden sells its traditional bakes at £1.20 to £2.50 apiece, and Bondgate Bakery in Otley prices its counter items between £1.80 and £2.45. If the brief is “something nice with a candle in it”, a traditional bakery counter still beats everything above on price.
